Lower School PE

Coach Freud’s Corner
The NEWS and all that’s news from the mysterious world of elementary physical education at Ezell-Harding Christian School.

August 13,2018

This fall, Ezell-Harding students have a lot to look forward to as
their physical education classes begin. I am writing this blog as a preview of the activities planned for the fall semester. Here is a sample of what your child can look forward to:

  • SAVE THE STATUES (I previously said mysterious world of PE)
  • SPEEDWAY (Hint-not for turtles)
  • STEAL THE BACON (Not your traditional game of pork)
  • THROW OUT THE TRASH (A favorite  returns with a wrinkle)
  • ELIMINATOR (Need I say more?)
  • SECRET AGENT (If I told you it wouldn’t be a secret)
  • FABULOUS FRIDAYS (Oldies but Goodies and I am not referring to yours truly)
  • STAR WARS TAG (“These aren”t the droids your looking for”)
  • FRISBEE DODGE BALL (My dog Lacy can play this game!)
  • MUSICAL HOOPS (No chairs required)
  • NAME IT AND CLAIM IT (??????)
  • PLAYGROUND (Everyone’*s favorite weather permitting)
This is just a sample of the physical exercise that is in store for
Ezell-Harding PE students this fall.

Until next time “KEEP ON PLAYING.”

Computers-Field Day

Field day was the best ever!  The event was rescheduled for this past Monday, because of rainy weather the previous week.  Coach Freud's theme was 'It Happens Every Spring'...a baseball movie. Some of the activities reflected the history of baseball in Nashville.

Children like to write stories.  The assignment for both the 1st and 2nd grade classes was to write a story about field day.  It is so much fun to write a story on the computer because the children are allowed to change their font style and color.  All stories were using 30 as their font size.  The 2nd grade inserted and resized their picture using Google search. The 1st graders illustrated their stories back in their classroom. Their stories are in the hall outside of the lab.  I am so proud of the enthusiasm the students had composing their work.

Have a wonderful weekend.

2nd Grade Computers

Eating healthy is challenging for any age group. One responsibility we have as teachers is to educate our children concerning nutrition. Every year the website entitled Myplate.gov presents fun and informative information about our health.  Like I tell my students...God gave us 1 body...and it is our responsibility to care for our body.  This lesson encourages so much discussion...which is good.
The second grade classes had fun with Google drawing dividing a plate  into the different food groups and inserting a picture from that group. Drawing the plate, inserting text, searching for the appropriate food group and resizing were part of this assignment. Then the  activity was then printed. The students did great!

The sun is shining...have a great weekend.

Third Grade Computers

Tuesday afternoon is always a fun time when the 3rd grade class comes to the lab.  Our first activity is keyboarding. The students have mastered the home row keys, so after Christmas we began learning the entire keyboard.  The website we are using is www.mikids.com.  Gradually over the past several weeks, the students have become quite proficient in their keyboarding skills. Of course, this is a continual process and skills will improve year after year.

The past several weeks, we have worked on coding, making a flyer, reviewing solids, liquids and gases and of course websites that can improve our math and language arts skills.

Google sheets will be introduced this next class period with making a spreadsheet using Skittles. We will also make a chart from our data and print this activity.  The fun part about this activity is receiving a skittle as we leave class.

A really respectful class.

Have a lovely spring weekend.
