This week Brainpop discussed different types of symptoms children and of course adults have with a cold or flu.  Helpful suggestions were given to help us all stay well during this winter season.
Then we had a short Christmas video....which the students definitely enjoyed.  --The Christmas spirit is in the air!☺
This week is national coding week, so we had fun exploring code.org.  Each child progresses at their own rate....so fun....and the beginning stages of  a professional career someday for many of these children. Feel free to have your children use the website www.code.org. We started on course C. They know exactly what to do.
Have a wonderful Christmas!

Two of the Pre-K classes are scheduled for the computer lab on Monday morning....what a great way to start the week.  Mrs. Stephens class comes to the lab on Friday...and so that is a great way to end the week.  😊  The children know their procedures which is to enter the lab and sit on the floor in front of the screen.  We start the class by showing a short video and this week the video was the story of The Giving Tree. ..Sweet story..
Our review letter this week was the letter N.  The children always color this letter on the computer...
We then were able to go to www.sheppardsoftware.com and color different habitat scenes.  The student's motor skills with the mouse are improving each week.

PK-3 Computer Class

Both PK-3 classes were ready for computer class this week.  They are familiar with our routine coming to the lab and sitting quietly on the floor. We always show a short video of the nursery rhyme that is curriculum based.  This week was  'The Three Billy Goat Gruff''... adorable.  We reviewed the letter G  and colored our letter from www.Internet4classroom.com.  They totally understand upper case and lower case....Next we concentrated on the color brown and used www.sheppardsoftware.com for our activity.  Later the children reviewed all the colors.

Sweet classes.

PS-2 Computer Class

Visiting the PS-2 classroom on Friday morning is a special way to end the week. They are always eager and enthusiastic about any activity we have ...especially the tablets.  The class procedures are always the same...a short story...their curriculum video for the week, some mild physical activity and then to the tables to work on certain tablet applications.  Today Turkey puzzles were introduced and I was amazed how quickly the children were able to work the puzzles with little or no assistance.  Their 2 classroom teachers are amazing.  This is a sweet precious group of children..

4th Grade Computers

The fourth graders come into the lab each week knowing exactly what is expected of them..their class meets twice on Wednesday. At 10:30-11:00 the students come to the lab and only keyboarding is emphasized.  Keyboarding is such an important life skill, so this extra practice is time well spent.
After lunch the students return to the lab and continue working on their Google slide presentations.  Again...these students will be making presentations throughout their educational life and probably their professional life as well.  This is time well spent understanding the basics of making these presentations.  They are so creative and will be giving their presentations to their peers this next week.

A great class!!  Thank you Ms. Clevenger!!

3rd Grade Computers

Third graders are always ready for new activities.  Learning how to get information from the Internet is so important. The past few weeks we have had 2 assignments to research.  Third graders are always given the exact website to search.  Johnny Appleseed has been taught since Kindergarten, so the students actually know the story; however, the third graders were given questions to answer from a website. This type of research encourages their confidence.

Recycling is always a subject that is relevant to all of us.  The students were given a certain website to explore and were to find several ways to help our environment.  Open discussion followed.

Fall is such a beautiful time of the year, and this past week the students were told to search for 5 different fall leaves, insert their image and resize, and label.  Finished products are in the hall. This is a great class!!

Have a nice weekend.

The second graders know our procedures and are able to come quietly in the room as we begin class.  After a fun video of Brainpop.jr---this week was about Fall--and a few minutes of discussion of this season, we began our class.  This week's lesson concentrated on learning new word processing skills in class.  The students were to list things they liked.  Centering their title, putting in capital letters when appropriate, and learning about the number bullets were skills that were taught.  The children were able to choose an image and insert into their paper....remembering to resize. All of the students completed the assignment, their documents were printed and are actually in the hall.

1st Grade Computers

A special time each week is when the First Graders come to the lab.  'Confidence' is totally displayed by these students.  They know exactly what our procedures are, so our class time is spent wisely. After a brief discussion of the 'history of computers', we had fun learning all about Google Drawing.  Making and coloring shapes, and drawing fun characters with our shapes added to the excitement in the lab. They were also able to use the Text box for writing their name. These fun drawings are displayed in the hall this week.

These children are excited about learning and continue to amaze me with their creativity.

This week in the library...

All classes had guidance with Mrs. Coleman this week instead of coming to library.

However, I went to each class once this week to read to them for a few minutes.

For PS2 we read the book on tape, Duck on a Bike.

For PS3 through Kindergarten we read the book We Can Get Along.  We then had a paper with a smiley face on one side and an angry face on the other.  We talked about things that would make us happy like sharing with each other, and things that would make us angry like being hit by another.  We showed the correct face with each action discussed.

For 1st through 4th grades we read the book Zach Makes Mistakes.  Each student was given a picture of a key with the words detect, correct, reflect, and nobody's perfect.  We talked about that we all make mistakes and how do think positive about them after we try to correct them.

Pre-K Computers

After chapel on Monday morning, a Pre-K class enters the computer lab...to be followed 2 hours later by another Pre-K class.  What a fun way to start the week.  It is amazing how they already are mastering the procedures of how to enter the lab and begin class.  Most of these children are proficient in using their home tablets, but using the mouse can present some challenging moments.  Our early class periods are spent reviewing our mouse skills plus learning about colors and other fun activities.  This week we actually made a pizza!!! Yum!

I hope you never get tired of hearing how adorable your children are!!

PS-3 Computers

These 3 year old children were amazing this week.  This is only their second time to come into the lab and they actually remembered our procedures very well.  We are always setting on the floor at first in front of the big screen, so they are able to listen to their instructions for the day.  Each child was assigned their computer last week, but did not actually touch the computer (which, of course was hard).  Learning to manipulate the mouse is rather difficult for their small hands, but it will only take a few weeks to master this skill.  Most are proficient in using the tablets, so their motor skills will continue to increase when they are comfortable using the 'mouse.' Our activities for the next few weeks will be concentrating on learning which button to push on the mouse.☺

Your children are adorable....

Have a nice weekend and hopefully you will be able to join us on Monday for our Solar Eclipse Day.

Pre-School 2

'Adorable' is the first word that comes to mind when I think of this 2 year old class. Ending up the week with this class is very special to me. Learning our procedures will take a few weeks for these young children, but they will adapt very quickly.  ALL children love the tablets and after hearing a short story, seeing a video relating to their curriculum, the children sat at the table and the tablets were given  to them. The app today was about Elmo and the alphabet.  It is amazing how they all 'zeroed' in to Elmo.

Your children are precious.

Thank you for choosing Ezell-Harding for this school year.

Have a great weekend.

The NEWS and all that's news from the mysterious world of elementary physical education of Ezell-Harding Christian School.

August 7, 2017

This fall Ezell-Harding students have a lot to look forward to as their physical education classes begin.  I am writing this blog as a preview to the activities planned for all the fall semester.  Here is a sample of what your child can look forward to:

  • SAVE THE STATUES (I previously said mysterious world of PE.)
  • SPEEDWAY(Hint-not for turtles.)
  • STEAL THE BACON (Not your traditional game of pork.)
  • THROW OUT THE TRASH (A favorite returns with a wrinkle)
  • ELIMINATOR (Need I say more?)
  • SECRET AGENT (If I told you, it wouldn't be a secret.)
  • FANTASTIC FRIDAYS (Oldies but Goodies and I am not referring to yours truly.)
  • PLAYGROUND (Everyone's favorite, weather permitting.)
This is just a sample of the physical exercise that is in store for Ezell-Harding PE students this fall.

Until next time, "KEEP ON PLAYING."

2nd Grade

This 2nd grade class is very active and ready for computer class each week.  Their confidence has grown as the year has progressed which definitely is evident in our computer projects.  This week we talked of course about Cinco de Mayo, but then our main topic was 'Nutrition.'  God gave us one body and  we talked about how it is our responsibility to use our bodies to glorify Him. We talked about the main food groups and how each group is need to maintain a healthy body.  The students then used Google drawings to draw their own 'Choose My Plate' assignment.  Also Google search was used to add a picture of each food group.  Great job, 2nd graders---remember we only have one body and we have to eat the right foods so we can remain healthy.

First Grade

Every week in computer class, time is allotted for some type of computer skill lesson.  In our society today all of our children seem to be well versed in using their tablet or ipad. One of the special keys the kindergarten class learned about was the backspace key, so our children know how to erase a simple mistake. However,  this week in our first grade classes we just talked about 'editing' and how we should always 'edit' our work before we turn an assignment in to our teacher.  Using the delete key, the backspace key and learning how to correct our mistakes when we see that red line under a word can always be helpful.  We all make mistakes--having the students know how easy it is to correct will make their word processing assignments so much easier.

Have a blessed weekend.

Kindergarten Computers

These past few weeks have been so busy for the Kindergarten students.  Even though several hours were spent practicing for Grandparent's Day, the children still had time to complete their Safety Booklet. Their booklet consisted of typing out a parent's cell number and typing their address. Each typed page was completed with their own illustration.  All of our students were able to complete this assignment. It is so important that our children know how they can reach their parents at any given time.

Throughout the year, we have also been working on a sound booklet.  Both of these assignments will be sent home shortly.

Have a safe weekend.

We always begin the class with the nursery rhyme video of the week.  Looking at their faces when this is on the overhead screen is adorable....Our next activity is reviewing their letter of the week and coloring which is then printed.

Easter computer activities have been our theme the past 2 class periods.  The children have colored eggs, put stickers on colored eggs, and even made magic eggs...and amazingly...there was no paint spilled anywhere.:)

I hope all of you have a wonderful Easter holiday.

Pre-School Three Computers

The three year old children remember their procedures every week--which is to come into the lab and make 2 rows on the floor in the front of the room.  After the roll is called, we watch a short video of their nursery school rhyme for the week.  It is always so fun to see their expressions....even if they have heard the rhyme many times before.  This week our rhyme was 'Hey Dittle Dittle'. Next, we review the letter of the alphabet  for the week which was 'T'. The children will color this letter on their computer and it will be printed.  We worked with two different activities on www.tvokids.com.....Bear's Birthday which reviewed our sorting skills, and Get Growing, which allowed the students to plant, water and watch their seeds grow.....which is what happens in the spring time.

These 2 classes are so much fun.  I am so proud of the way they continue to master their motor skills using the mouse.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Pre-School-2 Year Olds

Spending time with the 2 year old class every week is definitely an adventure.  Energy is everywhere.  While we do work with tablets, the first few minutes are spent with me calling the roll and calling out their names--they love this...then we read a short book followed by the nursery rhyme video they have for the week.  This week we had a short video about 'Left Hand Right Hand'.......Before we go to the table for our tablets, we usually do 'Ring Around the Roses' on the rug.  This releases some energy that has been stored up while sitting for a bit.  The children will then go to their assigned chair at the table for their tablets.  This week Elmo kept the class captivated with alphabet activities.  The children have matured so much this year physically and socially.  I love them dearly.

Guidance

Hello, EHCS Family!  This month we are concluding our Persona Safety Curriculum.  Students have gained an understanding in the difference between helpful strangers and harmful strangers.  Students are able to identify and assertively safeguard the private areas of their bodies.  Through story telling, role play, and modeling, students know how to vocalize their feelings if they are experiencing a good touch, bad touch, or confusing touch, as well as how to advocate for themselves and seek help when needed, with emphasis placed on not keeping secrets.

During the last nine weeks of school, we will be focusing on self-control, as students work towards gaining a better understanding of the grit and tenacity that is required to finish the school year strong.  We have many exciting upcoming events as we conclude our school year, and my goal is to reiterate that academic and behavior expectations must continue to be met.  It has been a pleasure working with your child, and I am excited to see the growth in their character.

My door is always open.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to stop by.

Pre-K 2-Mrs. Gibson

There are three words to describe Mrs. Gibson's 2 year old class and they are 'full of energy.' :) Their computer time is on Thursday and I am always welcomed by hugs  and kisses.  Our class begins by me calling their names while singing a little tune.  This always gets even more giggles..

I will then read a short story, followed by a You-tube video of their nursery rhyme of the week. After having a 'ring around the roses' game, the children will go to their table and the tablets will be distributed.  So many apps are installed on their tablets and after playing the assigned app, the children are free to choose their own. They definitely know how to use their pointer finger...

It is amazing to see how the children have grown physically throughout the year, but also how their attention span and their social skills have increased as well.

We are blessed to have these children at Ezell-Harding.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Coach Freud's PE Blog-Winter Edition

The Groundhog may have seen his shadow in Punxsutawney, but the weather is middle Tennessee has not been conductive to his prediction.  Warm days in the upper 50's, 60's, and 70's have prevailed for much of February, and elementary PE classes have taken advantage of the spring-like weather with visits to the playground.  During inclement days, the students have played indoor games like Two-ball Soccer, Eliminator (similar to Dodge ball only the ball must be kicked and not thrown), Home Run Derby, Line-tag, Noodle-tag, and Movement with Music on Fridays.

Fourth Grade Computers

Fourth graders continue to be very busy...their keyboarding skills improve every week...and they are always eager to learn something new.  This week the students investigated the presentation application called Emaze.  After a short tutorial video, the students were eager to begin their own fun presentation.  Exploring and collaborating with their friends made it even more fun.  The students will be making a presentation about 'weather' shortly. After appropriate research, students will be using their word processing skills and will be  able to create an amazing presentation in a short period of time.

I love to see the progress these students are making weekly.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Third Grade Computers

The Third Grade class comes to the lab on Tuesday afternoon. Even after a full day of class, these students are ready for more instructions.  Keyboarding is always our first assignment....the students practice on www.typingclub.com...this is obvious a life skill and I am so proud of these students for mastering this skill so early in their educational life.

February is Black History month, so the students each took one person to research and write a short paragraph about. Throughout the next few weeks, they will be able to orally present their person to the class... I am so very proud of their hard work.

Have a great weekend.

Pre-Kindergarten Computers

Mrs. Tidwell's pre-kindergarten class is the first class in the lab on Monday morning.  After praise chapel, the children can be heard singing a praise song coming down the hall and into the computer lab.  The children know the procedures which promotes an orderly transition from one activity to another. Mrs. William's class is first period on Friday..and they also come into the classroom very orderly.

Cinderella was the You-tube this week...from their 4 year old curriculum.  The children know this story, but it is always fun to see a short video taken from their curriculum...I love watching them watch the video.

The letter the class focused on this week was 'R'.  Turtle diary gives us a quick review of words and pictures that begin with that sound. Our next assignment is to color that letter from Internet4classrooms.com and print...

Learning to eat healthy can be practiced very early.  We had fun with 'Eating Healthy' from the website fisher-price.  I was impressed that the children knew so many of the vegetables mentioned.  We also had fun with an activity that let us play songs on the computer piano.... these children are making such progress with their skills and confidence.

Have a great weekend.

First Grade Computer Class

With Christmas break and then a snow day last week, our students are excited  to be back in school.  Class always begins with a short video from www.brainpopjr.com.  This week the video was about 'Winter'--very appropriate..
After a short time is spent on keyboarding, the students were directed to www.code.org.  Immediately the students were engaged in problem solving and helping each other.  There are many sites that encourage programming; however, we will continue to progress through this site when the students are coding in the lab. Hearing their 'cheering' when a puzzle was completed brought a smile to my face. I inform the students that some of them will be programmers some day and they actually got their start in First Grade computer class.😊

Have a great weekend.
